How would you like to earn $40 per hour for community service? Simple tasks such as reading to children in schools, helping out at a nursing home, or something for the public. Well, that's just about what you might expect from Barack Obama's new service plan. In exchange for the $4,000 college tax credit he offers, all that is required is 100 hours of annual community service.
That kind of tax credit is like a grant that can pay for community college. If it's extensible and renewable (ie usable more than 1 time), then it will give hundreds of thousands of young Americans the opportunity to go to college and get a better education - helping our entire nation as a whole.
