Obama's Campaign Money
Senator Barack Obama has raised over
$79 million dollars so far in his campaign, and this is only up until
October. Since then, and since his win in Iowa, he has had hundreds of thousands of donations. But the burning question is, where does he get it all?
He Gets Money From Real People
Barack Obama's campaign financing for his presidential election all comes from real people making individual donations. For example, in the first 19 days of 2008, Senator Obama got over
125,000 individual contributions/donations via his website. If we equate this with a mere $50 per person, this amounts to
$6.25 million dollars in only 20 days.
According to www.opensecrets.org, 99% of Barack Obama's money has come from individual donations. We suspect the other 1% consists of money transferred over from his Senate campaign money to his presidential campaign. Obama entered the 2008 race with about $516,500 from his Senate account. Compare this to other candidates, such as Hillary Clinton, who were born into wealth. (Obama does not come from a wealthy background).
More Recently - 1.5 Million
More recently, Obama reached an amazing goal of getting monetary contributions from over 1,500,000 people. This amazing number was possible because of the vast fund raising power of the internet, and his broad support among people.
